PhotoShop CS4: 64-Bit on Windows

It would appear that there are a huge number of people who, at the moment, have their panties all in a wad over the recent announcement by Adobe, that the next flavor of Photoshop will play nice with 64-bit systems, but only if they are Windows Vista 64-bit systems. This is not something that anyone should lose sleep over. Look at is like this:

For one thing, Adobe didn’t suggest that they aren’t going to deliver a 64-bit version of Photoshop; they merely indicated that it’s not going to be released at the same time as the Windows version. Essentially, that just means that the Mac flavor of will be delivered months or quarters or years later. But it will be delivered.

Another thing: Mac users currently have some really strong options, with regard to making Photoshop go really fast. It’s called a Mac Pro. All you have to do is buy one, stuff a bunch of RAM into it, install Photoshop, and begin working on images. Extra-fussy users should consider faster hard drives and even more RAM.

The point is that there are very few Photoshop users that are going to be negatively impacted by the dearth or a 64-bit-friendly version of Photoshop, since it’s likely to be showing at a theater near you, just at a later date than the Windows version.
